REMEMBERING AN ICON M. H. Mankad (12 April 1917  -  21 August 1978) Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad, fondly known as "Vinoo Mankad", set an opening partnership of 413 runs with Pankaj Roy against New Zealand in 1956, a record which stood for 52 years till it was surpassed by Neil McKenzie and Graeme Smith (415) of South Africa in 2008 against Bangladesh... Also, the Indian duo held another record for India, of 106 for the first wicket against England in 1952 at the home of cricket, which was surpassed, after 69 years, by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in August 2021, a Test that India won... In the list of genuine all-rounders that the gentleman's game has seen, Vinoo Mankad stands tall alongside Garfield Sobers, Keith Miller, Eddie Barlow, Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev etc. to name a few... C. P. S. CHAUHAN (21 Jul 1947 - 16 Aug 2020) Chetan Pratap Singh Chauhan played both his first and last Tests against New Zealand. Making his debut in 1969 in the first Test in Bombay against Graham Dowling's team, he signed off after the third Test against Geoff Howarth's eleven at Auckland in 1981... As a collegian in Pune, he initially represented Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, and later on, Delhi. Most of his Test appearances were in the late 1970s, being the regular opening partner of the "Little Master" Sunil Gavaskar... Opening the innings in 40 Tests, Chauhan scored 2084 runs, the highest being 97. With 16 fifties, including two 90s and five 80s, he, like Ashok Mankad, was unlucky to have seen the three figure eluding him. He held 38 catches and claimed 2 wickets...
