P. KRISHNAMURTHY
(12 Jul 1947 - 28 Jan 1999) 

Pallemoni Krishnamurthy, also known as Pochiah Krishnamurthy, the man behind the stumps for India in the famous 1971 Ajit Wadekar led series against the West Indies which scripted history, sadly enough went 'behind the curtains' thereafter (except for the lone ODI five years later), his role in the maiden victory being long since forgotten...

Krishnamurthy's Test debut was at Kingston in February 1971, and his last at Port of Spain in April 1971...

Rather tall (5' 8") for an Indian wicketkeeper, Krishnamurthy was Hyderabad's gloveman-in-chief from 1966-67 to 1978-79, holding the distinction of batting at all eleven positions. Unable to be as belligerent with the bat as Farokh Engineer, and without being as fortunate as Syed Kirmani to keep to Prasanna and Chandrashekhar, Krishnamurthy perhaps found the Test odds stacked against him...

Krishnamurthy's five Tests yielded him 33 runs @5.50, a top score of 20, 7 catches and 1 stumping. His only ODI against New Zealand in 1976 fetched him 6 runs, a catch and a stumping...

In the domestic circuit Krishnamurthy scored 1602 runs @14.97 with a highest of 82, eight fifties, 152 catches and 70 stumpings...

Krishnamurthy played till the 1978-79 season. He led Hyderabad Cricket Association XI in the Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup Tournament of 1976-77. Perhaps the only batsman to be associated in a century partnership batting at number 1 and at number 11, Krishnamurthy retired from all competitive cricket with the appearance of Bharath Reddy, Surinder Khanna, Daljit Singh, Zulfiqar Parkar, and Sambaran Banerjee for their respective teams...

Krishnamurthy worked for State Bank of India and was part of their star studded side in local cricket. He also served as the Chairman and selector of Hyderabad Cricket Association...

Krishnamurthy passed away, in Hyderabad, after a cardiac arrest this day in 1999. He was just 51...

C. P. S. CHAUHAN (21 Jul 1947 - 16 Aug 2020) Chetan Pratap Singh Chauhan played both his first and last Tests against New Zealand. Making his debut in 1969 in the first Test in Bombay against Graham Dowling's team, he signed off after the third Test against Geoff Howarth's eleven at Auckland in 1981... As a collegian in Pune, he initially represented Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, and later on, Delhi. Most of his Test appearances were in the late 1970s, being the regular opening partner of the "Little Master" Sunil Gavaskar... Opening the innings in 40 Tests, Chauhan scored 2084 runs, the highest being 97. With 16 fifties, including two 90s and five 80s, he, like Ashok Mankad, was unlucky to have seen the three figure eluding him. He held 38 catches and claimed 2 wickets... 🏏🏏 AIR CMDE H. T. DANI (24 May 1933 - 19 Dec 1999) Another gifted cricketer who unfortunately found himself in the list of the 'only debut Test' category, Hemchandra Tukaram "Bal" Dani originally from Solapur, shifted base to Nashik, Maharashtra... He played his only Test at the age of 19 in November 1952 against Pakistan, at the Brabourne Stadium, Bombay, which India won by 10 wickets... Opening the bowling with 41 year old Lala Amarnath, Dani held a great catch (A. H. Kardar) and got a wicket (Nazar Mohammad) in the total of 10 overs that he got to bowl in the entire match. He didn't have to bat at all. Evidently, he did not fail in the Test, which meant that there was really no reason to drop him, or to not pick him again for that matter.
